The winding village roads and scattered terraces are in the water moss planting base in Longhu Village, Jingpo Town, Rucheng County, presenting a beautiful picture of the countryside.
Water moss, with its scientific name of Herba Sphagni, grows in marshy areas or mountainous areas at high altitudes. The water absorption can be more than 20 times that of its own weight. With the functions of water retention, fertilizer conservation and ventilation, it has high value in gardens, horticulture and desertification control.
Longhu Village, at a high altitude and with sufficient water source as well as comfortable humility and temperature, is suitable for the growth of water moss.
Water moss is easy to grow and manage with no chemical fertilizer or pesticide. It boasts low costs, a high income and a short cycle.
In October, 2021, the two committees of Longhu Village visited Wushan Town ( in Lechang City, Guangdong Province) to conduct an on-site investigation. They decided to take water moss as the key industry and introduce Lechang water moss planting enterprises for investment.
Considering the actual situation of the village, the two committees of Longhu Village made on-site investigation and selected a barren field in Oujiashan Group to revitalize the idle land, stimulate the endogenous driving force of planting, and expand the village collective economy.
They explored a development mode of “Party Branch, Enterprise, Farmer” by learning from the experience of agricultural planting in advanced areas.
It means that the village committee signed a land transfer agreement with villagers and paid the land rent in advance, then signed a land transfer contract with investment enterprises who would pay the land rent every year and pay dividends to the village according to economic benefits after three years of stable planting. It is expected to promote the village collective economy with an annual income increasing by 120,000 yuan.
In recent years, Jingpo Town has upheld the “Party Branch plus” model to fully explore the natural advantages, seize opportunities and overcome difficulties. It has developed the specialized scale agricultural industries with a total industrial area of nearly 20,000 mu (about 1,333.33 hectares) in the town, including six agricultural industrial bases with an area of over 1,000 mu (around 66.67 hectares) and four ecological breeding bases.
The development mode has helped more than 3,000 people to get employed at home, attracting more villagers to participate in it.
As a result, the villagers are earning more money and living a better life.
